How Does Nutrition Counselling Work?
Book Appointment
Book a virtual initial nutrition assessment, or a free 15 minute discovery call to see if we’re a good fit. I work with clients Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday evenings, and Fridays.
Get Ready
Sign up for the client portal and complete 3 forms before the initial nutrition assessment: consent & policies, intake form, 3-day food and symptom journal.
Take Action
During the 60-minute virtual initial nutrition assessment, we’ll discuss your goals, health, digestive symptoms, bowel habits, diet, and lifestyle. We’ll devise an action plan consisting of the interventions you’ll work on implementing until the follow up appointment.
Tweak and Maintain
During the 45-minute follow up appointments, we’ll check on your symptoms, review your progress, troubleshoot your barriers, and adjust your plan as needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need my doctor to diagnose me with IBS before I meet with you?
A: Ideally yes, but it’s not absolutely necessary. Many digestive disorders share similar symptoms so it’s important for your doctor to assess your condition. Each digestive disorder has its own interventions, so an accurate diagnosis is essential before implementing interventions. Interventions may not not yield desired results without the right diagnosis.
Q: Do you offer direct billing for insurance?
I provide a receipt for your appointment that you can submit to your provider. I do not do direct billing. Many insurance companies offer coverage for registered dietitians (including Canada Life) so check with your provider.
Q: How many appointments will I need?
A: This depends on the complexity of your gut issues, the interventions we choose, whether you implement those interventions consistently, and how quickly your body responds. Expect a minimum of 3 appointments, the first of which being the initial nutrition assessment.
Q: How often do we have follow up appointments?
Follow up appointments are usually spaced 2-6 weeks apart depending on the client’s needs, schedule, and care plan.
Q: Do I need to sign up for a client account to work with you?
A: Yes. I use a client portal called Practice Better to work with my clients. The portal can be accessed via computer, tablet, or phone using the Practice Better app (available on Apple and Android). There is an introductory video in the client portal on how to navigate it. Within the client portal you’re able to join our video appointments, pay your invoice, reschedule appointments, upload your bloodwork, access resources I provide and review your care plan details.
Q: What if I have questions between appointments?
You can email me or send me a text in the client portal between appointments and I’ll respond as soon as I can (within 48 hours).
